Greensboro, NC- Kensly Stewart and
DJ Jackson both turned in strong performances on the basketball court last week, earning Greensboro College Athlete of the Week distinctions.
Stewart continued her impressive freshman campaign with a trio of double-figure scoring efforts last week. At N.C. Wesleyan, Stewart notched 17 points and 3 steals. She followed it up with 11 points in just 15 minutes in a road win against non-conference opponent Warren Wilson. The Pride picked up their first conference win against Meredith on Saturday, and Stewart put together one of the best games of her young career. She set a career-high of 28 points on 10 of 20 shooting (6 for 12 from three-point range), just missing becoming Greensboro's first 30-point scorer since 2023. Her six made shots from beyond the arc was tied for the seventh-best mark in a single game for women's basketball since 2000. Stewart leads the Pride with 14.3 points per game this season.
Women's basketball has a pair of road games this week at Pfeiffer and Methodist.
Men's basketball earned a win in their conference opener with a come-from-behind effort against William Peace. Jackson notched his first career double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. It was his third game of 20+ points this season. It also marked the fourth consecutive game in which he recorded points, assists, rebounds, blocks, and steals on the score sheet. He has recorded double-digit point outputs in every game this year. He currently leads the Pride with 82.3% shooting from the free throw line, and his 16.9 points per game is second-highest in the USA South.
Men's basketball has a pair of home games this week, against Southern Virginia and Methodist.
