GREENSBORO, NC.
The Greensboro College women's basketball team cruised to a 91-61 win over Pfeiffer University in a midweek conference contest Thursday (Jan. 20) at Hanes Gymnasium. With the win, the Pride improved to 15-1.
Pfeiffer started the game fast, and jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead. But Junior Forward
Ta'Keria Legette hit a 3-pointer at the 7:40 mark of the first quarter to give the Pride their first points. Legette's spark started an 8-0 scoring run, and Greensboro never again relinquished the lead. Legette was a force throughout the game, finishing with a season high 23 points and 12 rebounds. Legette and the Pride steadily increased their lead, heading into halftime with a 44-31 advantage after
Aliyah Whiteside hit a buzzer beating 3-point jumper off a great feed from
Lauren Livingston.
Stellar ball movement and precision outside shooting kept the Pride in total control in the second half.
Karli Mason hit five 3-point baskets, while
Lauren Livingston and
Aliyah Whiteside also reached double figures in points. Greensboro's red hot scoring ranks 7th nationally with over 85 points per game.
Pfeiffer's Brina Bentley led the way for the Falcons with 12 points and seven rebounds, but the Pride's smothering defense was able to hold Pfeiffer to just 1-19 from beyond the arc.
The Pride's game at Salem that was scheduled for this Saturday has been postponed, so they look to continue their winning streak by traveling to North Carolina Wesleyan this Sunday at 2:00 PM.
