30-Point Third Propels Greensboro

The Greensboro College women's basketball team traveled to William Peace University for the final USA South Athletic Conference matchup before the new year. Out scoring the Pacers by 17 in the third, the Pride went on to win, 86-67.

Coming out of the halftime locker rooms, William Peace (2-7, 1-3) opened the third with two free throws to capture the lead. Aliyah Whiteside evened the score with a layup and kicked off a 7-0 run for Greensboro (9-1, 3-1) to take a 46-39 lead at the 7:51 mark.

The Pacers slowly worked their way back into the game and cut the deficit to four (52-48). With 4:21 to go in the third, the Pride closed out the period by out scoring the hosts 15-2 as Lauren Livingston scored eight of the 15. GC led 67-50 going into the fourth.

It was a seesaw affair in the fourth between both squads as Greensboro won the period 19-17 and ultimately took the game by the 19-point difference.

In the opening period, WPU jumped out to an early 5-2 lead. Karli Mason made three-consecutive three-point shots to put the Pride up by six (11-5) at the 6:20 mark. 

The Pacers cut the difference down to two points (15-13) before GC closed the first on a 8-3 run to hold a 25-16 advantage.

For the first part of the second, both teams were evenly matched before William Peace out scored Greensboro 17-7 including the final nine points to tie the game at 37 as the halftime horn sounded.

Livingston led all scorers with 27 points (fifth 20-point performance of the season) with eight assists. Ta'Keria Legette posted another double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Quadijah Moore (12), Mason (11) and Briana Milton (10) each finished with double-digit points. 

The Pride shot 45.5-percent from the field, 36-percent from distance and only missed four (17-21) free throws in the game. 

Greensboro sets its eyes on the 2022 portion of the schedule as it hosts Mid-Atlantic Christian University on Wednesday, January 5. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
