The Greensboro College women's basketball team opened the 2021-22 USA South Athletic Conference schedule at Pfeiffer University. The Pride continued its winning streak as they topped the Falcons, 85-67.
Pfeiffer (3-3, 0-2) scored the first basket of the game from long range. Greensboro (7-0, 1-0) responded as
Lauren Livingston hit a three of her own.
The teams matched each other with the score tied at nine with 4:06 to go in the first. The Falcons closed out the first on a 7-3 run to lead 16-12.
It was the first time all season the Pride trailed after the first period but they responded with an 11-3 run. Aliyah Whiteside scored five of the 11 points to give GC a 23-19 edge. After a three by Pfeiffer to pull within one (23-22), Greensboro out scored the hosts by 10 (14-4) to gain a 37-26 lead with 1:53 to go in the first half.
The Falcons made back-to-back field goals before
Quadijah Moore made a jumper with 30 seconds remaining till halftime. The Pride led 39-30 at the break.
To begin the second half, Greensboro scored six-straight points to hold a 15-point advantage. Pfeiffer went on a run of its own (10-2) to close the deficit to seven (47-40) at the 3:46 mark. The remainder of the period was an even battle with the Pride extending its lead to 57-47.
The fourth started as both squads exchanged baskets for the first 2:45. After a layup from
Briana Milton, Greensboro went 6-7 from the free throw line with
Ta'Keria Legette making five of them.Â
Over the final 4:30 of regulation, Pfeiffer tried to cut into the deficit but was unable as the Pride won by the 19-point margin.
Livingston led all scorers with 22 points while also collecting six assists, four rebounds and three steals. Moore finished with a double-double as she scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.Â
Legette also had a double-double (17 points and 10 rebounds) while Milton added 12 points. The Pride out rebounded (58-36) and out scored the Falcons in the paint (44-34).
Greensboro travels to Southern Virginia on Wednesday, December 8 for another USA South matchup. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
