GC Travels to Southern Virginia

The Greensboro College women's basketball team traveled to Buena Vista, Virginia to face Southern Virginia in a USA South Athletic Conference matchup. A fourth period run gave the Knights a 79-68 victory and ended the Pride's undefeated streak.

Going into the fourth, Greensboro (7-1, 1-1) were ahead 55-54. Both teams exchanged the lead before Southern Virginia scored seven-straight to take a six-point advantage (66-60).

The Pride slowly chipped away at the deficit and after layup from Quadijah Moore, the team only trailed 68-66 with 4:17 to go in regulation. The Knights responded with a 9-0 run to go ahead and eventually win by the 11-point margin.

Greensboro was led by Lauren Livingston as she led all scorers with 24 points. Livingston also had five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Ta'Keria Legette added 18 points and six rebounds.

In the first, GC opened the game by jumping out to a 5-0 edge. SVU evened the score and then again at seven. The Pride went on an 8-0 run capped off by a three from Karli Mason. The Knights ended the first on a 10-2 run to tie the game at 17.

The second and third periods were just as tightly contested with neither team having more than a three-point lead. Both teams were even at 38 at the half with Greensboro leading by one (55-54) at the end of the third.

Emma Camden led Southern Virginia with 23 points and eight rebounds. Fellow Knight, Katie Garrish had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. SVU shot 45.8-percent from the field while GC was 38-percent. From three-point range, the Knights went 10-14 compared to 5-21 for the Pride.

Greensboro returns to Hanes Gym on Saturday, December 11 to face Mary Baldwin. Start time is 2:00 p.m.
