GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team defeated the Quakers of Guilford College for the second straight day Sunday, 11-7.
Greensboro got on the board first in the first inning on a
Scotty McGuire RBI single through the left side before
Jacob Rodriguez made a 2-0 with a RBI single of his own in the top half of the second inning.
Despite taking the two-run lead, Guilford used a three-run bottom half to take a one-run lead of their own before
Devin Brackin blasted a three-run homerun over the left-center field wall in the fourth to give the Pride a 5-3 lead.
Guilford then regained a one-run lead after scoring one run in the bottom of the fourth and two in the fifth, but Greensboro was once again able to bounce back to take the lead right back. In the sixth, the Pride posted a five-run inning as
Michael Garvey Jr.,
Hunter Curtis, and
Kendal Tucker each tallied RBIs to make the score 10-6.
Following the big inning, Greensboro added one to their lead on a RBI single by
Chance Bryant in the eighth before Guilford scored the game's final run in the bottom of the ninth.
Greensboro pounded out 13 hits in the victory as Curtis, Garvey, Bryant, and
Braxton Rupp each had two hits.
Eli Moravick started on the mound for the Pride but did not factor into the decision.
Chenzo Scanio was credited with the win, while
Jared Cenal pitched the final four innings to earn his first save of the season.
