Baseball Tops Guilford 4-2 For Third Straight Victory

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team defeated the Quakers of Guilford College Saturday 4-2.

Greensboro wasted no time getting on the board as they struck for three runs in the top of the first inning. Michael Garvey Jr. led off the inning before advancing into scoring position on a Hunter Curtis fielder's choice. With two runners on a no out, Chance Bryan laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second a third.

Following the bunt, Scotty McGuire hit a RBI single to right field before Braxton Rupp added yet another RBI hit. Later in the inning with two outs, Jacob Rodriguez scored McGuire from third with an infield single.

The score then remained the same until the seventh when Guilford pulled to within one run with a two-run inning, but Greensboro was able to get yet another run in the eighth inning on a DJ Lowry single to score Kendall Tucker.

In the ninth, Cameron Edmonds was able to shut down to Quakers in order to pick up his second save of the season.

Garvey Jr. and Rodriguez both had two hits on the afternoon for the Pride. Parker Strader, who earned USA South Pitcher of the Week honors Monday, picked up the win on the mound after allowing just two runs over 6.2 innings pitched, while striking out four batters.

The Pride will once again square off with their crosstown rivals Sunday at Guilford College beginning at 1 p.m. For more information on Greensboro College baseball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
