Sykes and Testerman Break Records as Greensboro Completes Sweep with Doubleheader Victory

Grottoes, VA - Greensboro College Baseball took two games from Mary Baldwin in dominant fashion on Sunday to complete the series sweep.

Game One:
Evan Sykes and Trevor Testerman led Greensboro to a 17-6 victory in game one. Sykes had 4 hits with a 2-run home run in the first inning that kick started an impressive offense showing from Greensboro. Testerman had 4 hits as well with 3 home runs and 6 RBI. With his third home run, Testerman broke the Greensboro single-season home run record with 15. 

Alex Vazquez had another impressive showing at the plate, going 3-for-5 with 4 RBI. Tyler Alverio and Shane Garrett each had two hits on the day, with Jacob Severson, Carson Herod, and Destin Matthews each collecting one hit.

Austin Federspiel got the win out of the bullpen for Greensboro, going 4.2 innings, allowing no runs and striking out 5. 

Game Two: 
Evan Sykes and Trevor Testerman continued their hot hitting into game two, collecting 3 hits apiece. Sykes broke the Greensboro career hits record, collecting his 192nd hit with a double in the 7th inning. 

Dawson Shelton blasted two home runs, recording 6 RBI. Those home runs were Shelton's first of the season. Jacob Severson, Alex Vazquez, Brayden Sands, Carson Herod, Tyler Alverio, and Jaycob Caseres all recorded a hit, with Sands recording two with 3 RBI. 

Parker Broadus got his first career win out of the bullpen, going 3.2 innings, allowing no runs and striking out 2.

Notes:
  • Evan Sykes now holds the Greensboro career records for home runs (27) and hits (192).
  • Greensboro broke the team record for most home runs in a season with 42 after this weekend's outburst.
  • Trevor Testerman now leads the conference in batting average (.486) and leads the nation in home runs with 15.

Greensboro travels to Southern Virginia next weekend to play a 3-game series. Game one is scheduled for 3:00pm on Friday, April 17th.
