Greensboro, NC - Impressive displays of hitting power propelled softball's
Jordyn Tong and baseball's
Trevor Testerman to be named this week's Greensboro College Pride Athletes of the Week.
In a doubleheader against Christopher Newport, Tong went 4-for-8 with three home runs (including a grand slam) and seven RBI. Tong now has four home runs on her sophomore season, besting her freshman mark by one. Tong's power outburst this weekend vaulted her into a tie for third place in the USA South for home runs in 2026, and elevates her into a tie for 11th on the all-time home run leader board at Greensboro College.
Softball has a pair of conference doubleheaders this weekend, hosting N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday and Methodist on Sunday.
Testerman's impressive first year at Greensboro took a historic turn on Saturday. After the Averett transfer went 2-for-3 on Friday in a loss to Pfeiffer, the junior etched his name into both the Greensboro College and USA South record books in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. In a 23-8 shellacking of the Falcons, Testerman went 5-for-7 with an astonishing 4 home runs and 10 RBIs. The 4 home runs in a game (a trio of three-run blasts and a solo home run) shattered the old Greensboro College record of two (held by many players) and also set the new single-game mark for the USA South as well. The 10 RBIs were a program record as well (and one shy of the USA South record), and he tied the single-game mark at Greensboro College for hits with five. He followed that up with a 2-for-3 showing in the series finale to finish the weekend 9-for-13. On the year, he has set a career-high of seven home runs to go with 30 RBIs (both USA South leading figures) and a .469 average (second in the conference).
Baseball travels to Lynchburg on Wednesday before hosting USA South foe William Peace for a weekend series.
