Asheboro, NC - Greensboro College Baseball (4-1) swept a doubleheader with Averett (2-2) on Saturday, winning game one 18-8 and game two 16-3.
Game One:
Game one went to Greensboro 18-8 in 7 innings. Averett got out to a 2-0 lead in the first before Greensboro scored in the second on a
Shane Garrett RBI ground out. Up 4-2, the Pride scored four more in the fifth inning, including a
Tyler Alverio two-run single.
With the score 9-6, Garrett would come through with a grand slam for his second career home run to put the Pride ahead 13-6. Two more runs would score in the inning, and Greensboro would eventually run-rule the Cougars in seven innings.Â
Michael Richards got the win, improving to 2-0.
Evan Sykes, Garrett, and
Brayden Sands all had three hits. Garrett would total five RBI while Sykes and Alverio had three RBI each.
Game Two:
It was all Greensboro in game two, winning 16-3.
Isaiah Ralls earned his second win of his freshman campaign, going 6.0 innings and giving up 3 runs.Â
It was another big game from the freshman
Brayden Sands, who had another three-hit game to total six on the day. Fellow freshman
Tanner Jackson had two hits, as did
Austen Townsend and
Jacob Severson.Â
Evan Sykes had a three-RBI game while five players had two RBI. Severson also had a stolen base, his first of the season.
Notes:
- Greensboro is now 9-9 in stolen bases this season.
- Greensboro has won six of their last seven games against Averett.
