GREENSBORO, NC- Football's
Will Pailthorpe snags this week's Greensboro College Male Athlete of the Week, while the Female Athlete of the Week designation was split this week between volleyball's
Payton Shiflet and soccer's
Shyann Hansen.
Pailthorpe, a senior defensive back, continued his strong season by leading the team with nine tackles against FCS opponent Davidson. He also snagged his first interception of the season in the second half. The interception was the sixth of his career, tying him for seventh all-time in program history. His nine tackles against the Wildcats also marked a season high, both for Pailthorpe and by any Greensboro defender this season.
Football has a bye week before taking on Southern Virginia on 10/4 in Buena Vista.
It was another strong week for Shiflet, who played a big role in Greensboro's volleyball team grabbing a pair of conference victories last week. Against Methodist, Shiflet notched 18 kills on 37 attacks, while recording nine digs and four service aces as the Pride won 3-1. Saturday against Meredith, she recorded a season-high 28 kills and 63 attacks (both a USA South high for a single game in 2025), while recording 14 digs. On the season, Shiflet has a blistering .316 hit percentage.
Volleyball has a pair of matches this week. on the road at Brevard on Wednesday before returning home for a match against Mary Baldwin on Saturday.
After a tough weekend against Berry and Roanoke, Hansen has bounced back in a huge way for women's soccer. The freshman net minder blanked crosstown rival Guilford last week, saving all four shots she faced in a 0-0 draw. Saturday against Regent, Hansen stifled the lone shot on goal in a narrow 1-0 victory. Hansen now has four solo clean sheets in her first eight career games, while combining with
Carlisle Dozier on another. In stopping all five shots last week, she boosted her season save percentage to 80.5% heading into conference play.
Women's soccer takes on Brevard in their USA South opener tomorrow night and a road match at Pfeiffer on Saturday.
