Volleyball Comes From Behind to Defeat Brevard 3-2

Brevard, NC - It was a wild five set match on Tuesday night as Greensboro volleyball came from behind to beat Brevard 3-2. The Pride found themselves down 2-1 before taking the final two sets to secure their 18th win of the season.

Greensboro got off to a strong start by winning the first set 25-21. The Tornados flipped the script in set two, winning 25-21 themselves. Brevard then took the third set 25-20 and gained control of the match. However, Greensboro battled to win the third set 25-16 to force a fifth set.

With Greensboro up 3-0, Brevard scored 4 straight points to take a 4-3 lead. They then took a 9-4 advantage and seemed to be heading towards a match victory. From there, however, the Pride stormed back and tied the set score 12-12. With Brevard up 14-13, Greensboro scored the final 3 points of the set to get the win and improve to 11-4 in USA South Conference play.

With the win over Brevard, Greensboro sweeps the regular season series between the two teams. The Pride improve to 8-1 in their last 9 meetings against the Tornados, which includes four wins in a row.

Kelci Brooks led the Greensboro in kills with 12, followed by Taylor Cotie with 11. Cotie also had 4 solo blocks. Jaylyn Templeton had 45 assists on the night, and Morgan Mayfield totaled 32 digs. Grace Klingensmith led Greensboro with 5 service aces.

Head coach Kevin Troup said after the win, "Happy to get the win tonight. Brevard is a really good volleyball team and played really well. We had our moments. It wasn't our best match but I can't give enough credit to Brevard."

Greensboro will play again this Friday when they host NC Wesleyan for senior night. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
