Staunton, VA - Greensboro volleyball played in a tri-match against William Peace and Mary Baldwin on Saturday and came away with two big conference wins. They defeated William Peace 3-1 and then took down Mary Baldwin 3-0.
Greensboro vs William Peace:
The Pride got revenge against William Peace in this one, as the Pacers defeated Greensboro in their first match-up of the season earlier this year. Greensboro took the first set 25-22 followed by a dominant 25-11 win in the second set. The Pacers bounced back to take the third set 25-17, but the Pride put William Peace away by taking the fourth set 25-23.
In the fourth set, the Pacers took a 22-21 lead as they looked to force a fifth set. However, Greensboro went on a 4-1 run to end the match and secure the win.Â
Kelci Brooks led the Pride with 14 kills, followed by
Krista Brantley with 12 and
Payton Wright with 10. Brantley also had 3 blocks.
Morgan Mayfield had 15 digs on the match, while Brooks had 12.
Grace Klingensmith had three big service aces on the match.
Greensboro vs Mary Baldwin:
The Pride played their second game of the day against Mary Baldwin, and they earned a 3-0 sweep of the Fighting Squirrels. Greensboro fought hard to win the first set 25-23, and then cruised to a 25-14 win in set two. The final set saw the Pride come away victorious 25-11 and complete the sweep.
Taylor Cotie led Greensboro in kills with 11.
Krista Brantley had 9 kills on the match, and
Kelci Brooks had 6.
Breckyn Bahr had 2 service aces while
Morgan Mayfield led the team with 16 digs.
Head coach
Kevin Troup said afterwards, "Proud of the way these ladies played today. It was great to bounce back after the match on Thursday where we didn't play our best. At this point in the season, every match is extremely important and we played well today."
The Pride will host conference leading Southern Virginia in their next match on Wednesday. Game time is set for 6:00 pm.
