Greensboro, N.C. - The Greensboro College Pride Football team were back on the road Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Hampden-Sydney College to square off against the Tigers.
The Tigers, coming off two very close losses, feature a potent offense which would certainly be a test for the Pride defense. They are also led by Head Coach Marty Favret, entering his 23rd year at the helm for Hampden-Sydney. Coach Favret is the second winningest coach in Tiger history with 140 victories.
Tyler Card, The Pride's Head Coach, will be looking to grab a victory on the road as he and his squad are looking to turn the season around.
Unfortunately, the first quarter was not kind as turnovers, penalties, and an unstoppable Tiger offense would place the Pride in an insurmountable hole early.
A gallant comeback in the second quarter fueled by three Tiger turnovers created 21 points unanswered by the Pride. A 36-yard interception return for a score by
JaJuan Givens, a 15-yard touchdown reception by
Da'Shaun Wallace, and a 2-yard run by Rodney Scott, JR gave the Pride momentum as the first half would come to an end with the Pride down 21 points.
The Tigers would receive the opening second half kickoff and would again begin to methodically work down the field for a touchdown to swing the pendulum back in their favor.
The Pride would not mount a challenge the rest of the way and would go down to defeat by a 70-28 score.
Following the game Coach Card had these comments: "We have yet to put a full game together. We are very talented group that at times shine very bright. We need to figure out how to perform at a high level all of the times. Penalties are still hurting us as well as turnovers on the offense. These are all fixable mistakes and when we do, we will the best team on the field."
