The Pride drove across town to face the Quakers of Guilford College for an afternoon game today (March 1), and came away with a 20-15 win. Greensboro jumped all over Guilford, scoring nine runs in the first frame.Â
Adam Weber started the game with a single to right field, then advanced to third on a fielding error.Â
Josh Pittman followed with an RBI double, and would then score on back-to-back wild pitches. Guilford struggled throwing strikes, as they also walked two hitters, hit one batter, and advanced all runners on a balk, all in the first inning. Up 7-0, Pittman hit a 2-RBI single on his second time to the plate of the inning, increasing Greensboro's margin to 9-0.
The Pride scored another in the 3rd inning as
Braxton Rupp hit an RBI single, scoring
Adam Weber. Then in the 5th inning,
Branden McMillian drove in Alex Morales on an RBI double down the left field line.
Guilford would not go away quietly, as they answered Greensboro's hot start with four runs in the first inning, and three runs in the fourth inning to claw back into the game.
Alex Morales' 2-RBI single in the 6th inning increased Greensboro's lead to 13-8, but Guilford would tie the game after five runs on five hits in the sixth inning. The Quakers got good production from Bryce Vestral, who went 4-6 with 2 RBI for the game.
Greensboro answered again in the 7th as
Cam Watts drilled a single through the left side of the infield to score two runners.Â
Braxton Rupp put the game out of reach with a 3-RBI double to left that made the score 19-13 after 7 innings. The Pride would hold on to win 20-15.
Greensboro's Alex Morales and
Braxton Rupp did the heavy lifting for the Pride, with Morales going 3 for 4 and, and
Braxton Rupp going 4 for 7 with three doubles and five RBI from the plate.
Greensboro improves to 3-1 on the season, and will return to the diamond as they travel to Mount Berry, GA this weekend to face Denison University, Adrian College, and Berry College in the Berry College Tournament.
