Danville, VA
Greensboro's men's basketball team could not overcome a slow start in a road matchup vs Averett University on Tuesday night (February 8). The Pride shot just 7-34 (20.6%) from the field, and were out-rebounded 26-18 in the first half, leading to a 35-19 halftime deficit.
GC would bounce back with a quick 8-0 run to start the second half, sparked by
Christian Thompson scoring five points in the first minute along with a
Kevon Meertins 3-point jumper at the 18:03 mark of the second half. Greensboro's
Ty Hill was the only Pride player to reach double figures with 11 points, and
Christian Thompson contributed eight points and eight rebounds in the losing effort.
Averett was led by Corey Baldwin and Jalen Rowell, each with 15 points.
Greensboro's
Trajan Weatherspoon's layup with 14:32 left in the game brought the Pride back to within seven at 39-32, but the Cougars answered back with a 8-0 run to move the margin up to 15 at 47-32 with 12:00 remaining in the game. The deficit would prove too much to overcome, as Averett hit their free throws down the stretch, winning 64-50.
The Pride currently sits at 9-13 on the season, and looks to bounce back as they travel to Pfeiffer to battle the Falcons at 7:00 PM this Saturday.
