Staunton, VA
Greensboro's men's basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Mary Baldwin Wednesday afternoon (January 26). The Pride surrendered the game's final five points in an 81-74 road conference loss. Greensboro battled throughout the first half, led by Senior
Kevon Meertins' 20 points. Mary Baldwin took a 43-38 lead into halftime, and the back-and-forth affair would continue into the second half.Â
The score was tied four times and the lead changed hands 10 times in the first 13 minutes of the second half. After a Meertins 3-point basket, Greensboro led 54-50 with 11:34 to go. Untimely Pride turnovers allowed the Squirrels to regain momentum, as Mary Baldwin's Tyler Thomas made a layup to put them ahead 59-58 with 7:08 left in the game.
Senior
Ty Hill's made layup with 1:24 on the clock brought the Pride to within four at 76-72. After two more free throws by Meertins, the Pride had a chance to tie or take the lead with 46 seconds to go. Greensboro's comeback fell just short as the Squirrels were able to make their free throws down the stretch, and pulled away to win 81-74. Â
The Pride looks to bounce back as they host Pfeiffer on Saturday (January 29) at 4:00 PM.
