The Greensboro College women's basketball team traveled to Methodist University on Wednesday evening for a conference match-up. The Pride would go on to snap the Monarchs six game winning streak 78-61.
The first period saw an exchange of baskets between the Pride and the Monarchs.
Aliyah Whiteside would come out firing early from deep to put the Pride(12-1, 6-1) out in front by eight with three back-to-back-to-back three point baskets. Monarchs(7-5, 5-2) Kiley Hicks would respond with also back-to-back-to-back jumpers from both elbows and to put the Monarchs up at the end of the first period.
The second period would stay trend as both teams would continue to go back and forth. For the Pride,
Quadijah Moore would make her presence known by muscling through three Monarch defenders to bucket a layup. Hicks would keep her touch and keep the Monarchs right with the Pride heading into the half even at 38-38.
In true Pride style, the Pride came out big at the start of the third period.
Ta'Keria Legette would knock down a big three point shot in transition to help spark the Pride's lead.
Lauren Livingston would also contribute with back-to-back fast break points. The Pride would extend their lead to as much as twelve, holding the Monarchs to almost a four minute scoring drought.
Keeping their foot on the gas, the Pride would extend their lead to as much as nineteen points in the fourth period.
It was a big night offensively for the Pride with five different players finishing in double figures. Livingston finished the contest with 15 points and 8 assists. Whiteside would also go on to finish with 15 points. Moore would finish with 15 points and 6 blocks. Legette had a solid performance with a double-double, 12 points and 10 rebounds, and 5 steals.
Karli Mason also secured 11 points, respectively.
The Monarchs would grab 48 rebounds and the Pride would snag 38 rebounds.
GC would snap the Monarchs six game winning streak improving to 6-1 in the USA South and 12-1 overall. The Pride will host Averett University this upcoming Saturday in Hanes Gym for the conference match-up. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 P.M.
