An even attack propelled the Greensboro College volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over rival Guilford College.
Hailey Stout and
Carly Uhlir led the way for the Pride with eight kills each.
Greensboro (2-2) opened the match by taking an early seven-point advantage (12-5). Guilford pulled within three (14-11) by taking six of the next eight points.
The Pride responded as they expanded the lead to 19-11. Both sides exchanged points until Greensboro took four of the last five points as a kill from Uhlir clinched the set, 25-15.
In the second set, the lead bounced back and forth between the two squads with neither side collecting a lead greater than three points (Greensboro, 17-14).
The Quakers evened the set at several points including at 17, 18 and 19 points before taking a one-point edge (22-21). The Pride made it 22 all before the hosts won the final three points to win 25-22.
Greensboro jumped out to an early 8-4 lead in the third. Guilford pulled within two but the Pride won five-straight points with a kill from
Natalie Rosinski and Stout.
The Quakers tried to narrow the gap but Greensboro won 12 of the final 17 points to take 2-1 lead in the match.
In the fourth set, neither team grabbed a commanding lead until the Pride won five-consecutive points to lead by six (10-4). Guilford responded by winning 10 of the next 12 points as it led 14-12.
Greensboro clawed back and reclaimed the lead, 16-15. Unfortunately the lead was short lived as the Quakers grasped a three-point lead, 20-17.
An ace and kill by Uhlir along with a kill from Rosinski evened the set at 20. Guilford claimed the next point but that was the host's last point.
The Pride won the last five points, the set (25-21) and the match (3-1).
Rosinski,
Sarah Oakes and
Mckenzie Norris added five or more kills. Norris also assisted on 21 points.
Lauren Kunke led the defense with 19 digs while also serving up three aces.
Addie Haywood (12) and Uhlir (11) each had double-digit digs.
Greensboro travels to Salem, Virginia for the Maroon Classic on Friday, September 10 and Saturday, September 11. The first match is against Ferrum at 3 p.m. followed by a matchup with Randolph at 7 p.m. on Friday.
