The Greensboro College volleyball team traveled to Atlanta, Georgia for the Emory University Invitational. The Pride fell in the opening match against Covenant College, 3-0.
Greensboro (0-1) opened the first set by winning four of the first five points. Covenant (2-0) responded and evened the set at four points a piece.Â
The Pride and the Scots exchanged the lead until Covenant edged out a three-point lead (16-13). Greensboro brought the set back to even (16) before the Scots pulled ahead 20-16.
Both sides traded points until the Pride pulled with two (23-21). Unfortunately, Covenant won the final two points and claimed the first set, 25-21.
The second set was controlled by the Scots as they won six of the first nine points. Greensboro pulled within two but was unsuccessfully to get any closer as Covenant took a 2-0 lead in the match, winning the set 25-20.
The third was similar to the second as the Scots took an early lead and found themselves eventually up 14-8 after a 5-0 run. After a timeout, the Pride came out firing taking 11 of the next 16 points capped off by a kill from
Sarah Oakes.
Tied at 19, Covenant responded with another 5-0 run to claim a 24-19 lead. Two kills from
Hailey Stout warned off match point but the Scots claimed the set (25-21) and the match (3-0).
Stout led the Pride with 10 kills while collecting 11 digs.
Natalie Rosinski and Oakes added nine and eight kills, respectively.
Mckenzie Norris spearheaded the defense with 13 digs.Â
Greensboro will complete its two-day trip at the Emory Invitational on Saturday, September 5 with matches against Emory and LaGrange. Match one begins at 12:30 p.m. followed by another one at 3 p.m.
