Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Hot Start Paves the Way for Greensboro

The Greensboro College men's basketball team hosted Regent University in a rematch from earlier in the season. The Pride wasted no time jumping out to an early lead and never looked back. The team defeated the Royals, 72-53.

To start the first half, Greensboro (5-5) jumped out to an early 12-0 lead with five points from Kevon Meertins. Regent (2-8) tried to chip away at the deficit and eventually pulled within six (16-10) at the 9:48 mark.

However, the Pride kept the pressure up and closed the final five minutes on an 8-3 run to lead 34-22 at the break.

In the second half, Greensboro held its lead but the Royals and Kristopher Smith closed the gap to nine (59-50) with 4:43 to go in regulation.

Over the final four minutes-plus, GC out scored Regent 13-3 to secure the 19-point victory.

Meertins, Matthew Brown and Greyson Collins each scored 13 points. Brown also had seven rebounds and three blocks. Smith led the way for the Royals with 20 points.

GC shot 46.7-percent from the field and made a third of its three-point shots (9-27). The Pride also out rebounded, 41-29, and scored 34 points in the paint with 26 coming off turnovers.

Greensboro ends the first half of its schedule on Saturday, December 11 in a USA South Athletic matchup with Mary Baldwin. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
