The Greensboro College men's basketball team took part in the Roger Taylor Invitational hosted by North Carolina Wesleyan College. The Pride faced the Dragons of Virginia University of Lynchburg and came out on top, 84-72.
Greyson Collins scored the first basket for Greensboro (3-5) to open the game. Collins gave the Pride a 6-2 lead after two free throws and a layup. VUL (0-4) answered with six-straight to lead by two (8-6) at the 12:32 mark of the first.
Both teams went exchanged the lead before GC went on a 7-0 run with five coming from
Keyshawn Dorsey. Trailing 19-12, the Dragons cut the deficit to three before the Pride opened the lead back to eight (24-16) with 7:22 left in the opening half.
Greensboro held at least a five-point advantage throughout the first before ending the half with five-straight points to lead 43-31 at the half.
In the second half, the Pride maintained the lead for the full 20 minutes. VUL narrowed the gap to six (58-52) with 9:01 left in regulation. However, GC grew its lead to as much as 16 before winning by the 12-point margin.
Collins finished the night with a double-double as he scored 12 points and grabbed 10 boards. Dorsey added 13 points while
Ty Hill scored another 11.Â
Matthew Brown was close to a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds. The Pride had 41 points off the bench as 13 members of the squad scored.
Greensboro concludes its trip to Rocky Mount, NC on Saturday, December 4 as it faces St. Andrews University. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
