The Greensboro College men's basketball team opened the 2021-22 season at Hampden-Sydney College. The Pride fell to the Tigers, 86-72.
The first five minutes of the opening half were tightly contested.
Kevon Meertins scored the first points of the game and for Greensboro (0-1). Hampden-Sydney (1-0) responded with six-straight points to lead 6-2 at the 16:44 mark.

Greyson Collins scored four-unanswered to even the score. The Tigers regained the lead but a jumper from Meertins followed by a layup from
Amillia Huggins recaptured the lead for GC (10-9).
Hampden-Sydney notched the next seven points to hold a 16-10 advantage with 13:07 to go in the first. Greensboro worked the deficit down to two (18-16) but the hosts held a minimum of a four-point lead.
With 1:26 remaining in the half,
Matthew Brown hit a three-pointer to pull the Pride within one (35-34). However, the Tigers kept the lead at the half by five (41-36).
In the second half, Hampden-Sydney slowly grew its lead to double digits and never looked back. The Tigers went on to win by the 14-point advantage.
Collins led the Pride with 23 points, going 8-19 from the field and a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. Brown, Meertins and Huggins each finished in the double digits with 12, 10 and 10 points, respectively.
Hampden-Sydney had four scorers in double digits as its bench outscored GC, 45-16. The Tigers also shot 43.9-percent from the field compared to 37.3 for the Pride.
Greensboro faces Regent University on Saturday, November 6 at Churchland High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
