The Greensboro College men's basketball team traveled to Ferrum College to face the Panthers. Behind a 29-point performance fromÂ
Greyson Collins, the Pride topped the hosts in a 91-79 win.
Coming out of the halftime locker rooms, Greensboro (1-3) led 45-41. The Pride held the four-point advantage a minute into the half but Ferrum (0-1) hit six-straight three-point shots to lead by 14 (62-48) at the 15:54 mark.
Collins ended the run and started one for GC as he scored six of the next eight points. The Panthers extended its lead back to double-digits (66-56) with 13:43 to go in regulation. Greensboro cut the deficit to three with a 7-0 run capped off by a
Matthew Brown steal and layup.
After two Ferrum free throws, the Pride went on an 11-0 run as
Christian Thompson scored five of those 11. Greensboro led 74-68 with 7:58 left in the second half. Both teams exchanged baskets as GC grew its lead to 12 and held on for the win.
In the first half, both teams held the lead early until the Panthers led 8-7 at the 16:13 mark. The hosts held the lead for nearly 10 minutes when Brown made a jumper to give the Pride a 26-25 edge.
Kevon Meertins and Collins each scored five points over the next three minutes to extend the lead to 11 (36-25) with 3:44 to go in the first. Ferrum tried to even the score but Greensboro held onto the lead as the halftime horn sounded.
Ty Hill was the second leading scorer for GC with 18 points and had five assists and three steals. Meertins and Brown each finished in double digits with 16 and 14 points, respectively. The Pride shot 58.5-percent from the field, 45-percent from three and 76.9-percent from the free throw line.
Greensboro returns to Hanes Gymnasium on Wednesday, November 17 to face crosstown rival Guilford College. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m. Â
