The Greensboro College women's soccer team hosted North Carolina Wesleyan College in the regular season finale with a spot in the USA South Tournament on the line. A late goal in the first half gave the Pride a 1-0 victory and secured a spot in the USA South Tournament.
In the first half, both teams went back and forth with shots on goal as both netminders stood tall. In the 43rd minute,Â
Maci Hulver passed the ball across the box to
Skylar Mathis. Mathis, from a difficult angle, shot the ball from the right side to the back left side of the net for the goal.
Greensboro (5-9-3, 3-4-2) held the one-goal at the half.
The Pride kept the pressure in the second half by controlling the ball in the offensive end. GC had a chance to add to its lead in the 80th minute as Brittany Dale lined up for a penalty kick. N.C. Wesleyan's Alicia Jacobs pushed tipped the ball into the crossbar to prevent the goal.
Little over two minutes later, the Battling Bishops (5-10-1, 3-6-0) had its best chance but it rang off the left post. In the 84th minute, Daley gave it one more go to double the lead but her shot bounced off the right post and stayed out.
The Pride held on for the 1-0 victory. GC had six shots on goal compared to five for N.C. Wesleyan while both squads had six corner kicks.
Before the game, the team honored its seven seniors: Daley,
Hannah Bober,
Keeley Breza,
Natalie Habich,
