Baseball Uses Four-Run Eighth Inning To Defeat Roanoke

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team used a four-run eighth inning to defeat the Maroons of Roanoke College Wednesday 11-7.

Greensboro took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Maroons wild pitch before Roanoke was able to tie the game in the third inning.

Greensboro then used a three-run fourth inning, highlight by RBI doubles by Brayden King and Michael Garvey Jr., to take a 4-1 lead, but Roanoke battled back with a four-run fourth to jump out in front 5-4.

However, the Maroons lead was short lived as the Pride was able to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning, following a single by DJ Lowry and a Roanoke error.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the sixth when Greensboro plated two more runs before Roanoke tied the game for a third time in the top of the eighth. Following a big out to end the top of the inning, Greensboro took advantage of some Maroons mistakes and plated four runs to secure the four-run victory.

Devin Summers, King, Lowry each finished with two hits, while five other players had one hit. Chenzo Scanio pitched the eighth inning and was credited with the victory. Cole Cooper started the game and pitched five strong innings before giving way to Kendal Tucker, who struck out three batters over two innings.

The Pride will return to action at 6 p.m. Friday when they open a three-game USA South Athletic Conference series with the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College. For more information on Greensboro College baseball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
