DANVILLE, Va. – The Greensboro College men's basketball team fell to the Cougars of Averett University Tuesday 90-56.
The Pride men held a narrow two-point lead early in the first period before Averett mounted a 13-0 run to take a 17-5 lead with 11:56 to play in the half. As the half progressed, the Pride was able to pull back to within eight with 2:32 showing on the clock before
Michael Phifer hit a three-pointer, following a Cougars three, to pull the Pride to within 36-29 at the break.
However, the Pride struggled from the field early in the second half and could not recover, falling by the large margin.
Keyford Langley hit five three-pointers and finished with a team-leading 15 points, while Phifer added 12 points.
