Pride Men Win Thriller At Maryville After Brown's 18-point Performance

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Greensboro College men's basketball team used a 14-2 run over the final six minutes to defeat the Scots of Maryville College Sunday 76-73.

Maryville held a 15-6 lead with 12:39 to play in the first half before the Pride came storming back to within one, following an 8-0 run. Eric Peaks Jr. started the run with an old-fashion three-point play before Michael Phifer hit a three from the top of the key.

Following the run, Greyson Collins briefly gave Greensboro their first lead of the game before the Scots went on to regain another nine-point lead. However, the Pride was able to pull back to within two at halftime after closing out the final six minutes of the half on a 14-7 run.

In the second half, Maryville led the entire way until Kevon Meertins hit a jumper to give the Pride a 72-71 lead with 2:23 showing on the clock. As the next two minutes played out, Greensboro found themselves holding on to a three-point lead with 24 seconds remaining.

Greensboro got the three-point lead on a pair of free throws by Sean McCabe, which gave the ball back to the Scots with time remaining. Following a timeout, Maryville got one final shot off, but Meertins blocked the three-point attempt as time expired to seal the victory.

Matthew Brown posted a team-high 18 points and nine rebounds, to go along with three assists, while Collins, Peaks Jr., and Phifer also finished in double figures scoring.

The Pride men will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Pfeiffer University. For more information on Greensboro College men's basketball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
