BEREA, Ky. – The Greensboro College men's basketball team's late comeback bid came up short Saturday as they fell to the Mountaineers of Berea College by a 99-96 score.
After Greensboro scored the first basket of the contest, Berea went on a 9-0 run to establish a seven-point lead before the Pride was able to pull back to within one, following a
Greyson Collins jumper, with 11:12 showing on the clock.
Over the next six minutes, the Mountaineers were able to extend their lead back out to seven points, but the Pride closed out the remainder final three minutes of the half on an 11-4 run to tie the game at 40 heading into the break.
Justin Minnis, Collins, and Kristian each had a three-pointer during the run.
Following the break, Greensboro found themselves trialing by a seven-point margin again, but the quickly used a 10-3 run to take a one-point lead of their own. However, Berea then came back to establish an 83-71 lead with just over five minutes remaining in the contest.
Down the stretch, the Pride was able to pull within three points with 11 seconds remaining but Minnis' three-pointer at buzzer came up just short.
Michael Phifer finished the game with a team-leading 23 points and 17 rebounds, while Collins and Minnis both finished with 17 points.
