BEREA, Ky. – The Greensboro College baseball team defeated Berea College in the first game of a three-game USA South Athletic Conference series Friday 10-3.
Greensboro took an early 2-0 lead after
Scotty McGuire hit a triple to right center field to score
Lincoln Hewett and
Tyler Price.
Later in the inning, the Pride added to their lead on a pair of Berea errors before the Mountaineers sent the game into the second inning with Greensboro holding a 4-1 lead.
During the second, Greensboro extended their lead to 6-1 after
Hunter Curtis and Hewett each recorded on RBI.
The score then remained the same until the sixth inning when Berea struck for one run before pulling to within four runs with another run in the seventh inning.
Following the one-run seventh, Greensboro loaded the bases in the top half of the eighth inning before Hewett hit a two RBI single to left center to push the advantage to 8-3.
However, Greensboro was not done there as
Derek Jaar plated Hewett and Price with a single to left field, making the score 10-3.
After the four-run eighth,
Chenzo Scanio shut the door to help the Pride secure the victory.
Will Hicks picked up the win on the mound after pitching the first 6 1/3 innings.
