BEREA, Ky. – The Greensboro College baseball team finished up a three-game sweep of the Mountaineers of Berea College Saturday.
Greensboro took the opening game of the doubleheader by a 7-0 score before winning Game 2 5-4.
Game One
The Pride got on the board in the second inning after
Chance Bryant hit a triple to right field before coming across to score on a Berea error.
The score then remained the same until the fifth inning when
Derek Jaar and
Scotty McGuire each hit RBI triples to make the score 3-0.
With Greensboro holding on to the three-run advantage heading into the eighth,
Hunter Curtis extend the Pride lead to 5-0 with a 2 RBI single to right field before
Lincoln Hewett capped off the scoring with a 2 RBI single of his own.
Bryant finished the game with a team-leading three hits, while
Tyler Price, Hewett, and McGuire each had two hits.
Eli Moravick pitched the first seven innings to earn the win.
Game Two
Berea took a one-run lead in the first inning before Greensboro was able to tie the game on a RBI single by
Tim Osborne.
The score then remained the same until Osborne tallied another RBI hit in the sixth inning before
Hunter Curtis plated Price with a triple to left field in the seventh inning.
Following the Curtis triple. Hewett hit a sacrifice fly to left field to extend the Greensboro advantage to 4-1.
However, Berea was able to strike for three runs over the next two innings to send the game into extra innings.
In the top of the 10
th,
Blake Carroll led off the inning with a single to right field before moving into scoring position on an Osborne sacrifice bunt.
Later in the inning, Carroll came in to score the go-ahead run on a single by
Jacob Rodriguez.
After taking the lead,
Chenzo Scanio was able pitch around a two-out jam to secure the one-run victory.
Rodriguez went 4-for-5 at the plate with one RBI, while Osborne posted two hits.
