Greensboro, NC- The Greensboro College baseball team used a three-run fifth inning to defeat the Cougars of Averett University Sunday 5-2 to complete the three-game USA South Athletic Conference series sweep.

Averett took a 2-0 lead at the top of the first when Cody Jones hit a two-run homerun just over the left field fence.
Â
However, the Pride began to answer in the third inning when
Scotty McGuire doubled to left center field before coming across the plate on a RBI single by
Chance Bryant.
Â
The Pride then took advantage of a Cougars pitching change in the bottom of the fifth as
Lincoln Hewett plated
Brayden King with a single to right center filed to tie the score at two runs apiece.
Â
Two batters later, the Pride tacked on two more runs when
Hunter Curtis and Hewett scored on back-to-back bases loaded walks by
Cameron Peters and Bryan to jump on top 4-2.

The Pride was able to hold on to their two-run lead into the eighth inning when
Tyler Price hit a RBI single to score
Jacob Rodriguez to push the Pride advantage 5-2 before
Chenzo Scanio closed the door over in the ninth to record his second save of the season.

Curtis and Hewett each had two hits in the victory while Bryant led the Pride with two RBIs.
Clayton Slater picked up the win after pitching 2 2/3 innings in relief of
Cameron Whitson who started the game and pitched four innings.
