Baseball Sweeps Conference Doubleheader Against William Peace

CARY, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team used big innings to sweep the Pacers of William Peace University in their conference-opening double header Saturday.

The Pride took the opening game by a 15-2 score in eight innings before winning the nightcap 11-4.

Game One
William Peace took a one-run lead into the first inning before Ryan Campbell plated Lincoln Hewett with a single through the middle in the second inning.

Greensboro then blew the game wide open with a nine-run fourth inning. Blake Carroll, Hunter Curtis, Hewett, and Jacob Rodriguez each had RBI hits in the inning.

However, the Pride was not done scoring as they added one run in the fifth before adding two runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

The Pride pounded out 14 hits in the game. Carroll finished with one homerun and two RBI while Rodriguez went four-for-five at the plate.

Will Hicks started the game on the mound and was credited with the win after allowing just two runs over seven innings. Cameron Whitson pitched the final inning.

Game Two
Much like the first game, the Pacers scored one run in the first inning before Scotty McGuire hit a sacrifice fly into left field in the third inning to tie the game.

However, the Pacers scored two runs in the bottom half and one run in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead.

Greensboro was then able to tie the game with a four-run sixth inning as Carroll, Curtis, and Hewett each had RBI hits.

Both teams then left runners on base over the next two innings before Greensboro was able to break the tie with a six-run eighth inning and held on for the seven-run victory.

McGuire and Campbell both had two RBI doubles in the innings, while Brayden King also had a RBI hit.

Cole Cooper, who came in relief of starter Eli Moravick, was credited with the win while Tyler Watson, Chenzo Scanio, and Joseph Hoelle combined to pitch the final five innings.

The Pride will return to action Tuesday when they take on the University of La Verne in La Verne, California.
