GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team closed out conference play Sunday with a victory over William Peace University, 2-1.
Prior to the game, Greensboro College recognized their senior class.
After neither team was able to score over the first five innings, the Pacers struck for one run in the sixth to take a 1-0 lead.
Greensboro then battled back to tie the game in the seventh as
Christian Kercado came across the plate on a
Blake Carroll sacrifice fly.
Following the one-run inning to tie the game, the Pride defense was able stop a Pacers threat in the top half of the eighth inning, sending the game into the bottom tied at one.
Greensboro then scored the game's final run in the inning on a Pacers error that allowed
Dillon Cox to reach safely and
Jacob Rodriguez to scamper across the plate.
Once Greensboro took the lead, Kercado moved from his third base position to the mound where he struck out the final batter with the bases loaded to secure the one-run victory.
"I was happy to see the boys bounce back and close out conference play with a win for our seniors," Head Coach
Frank Maldonado said. "There is still a lot to play for this year and we will continue to get better and grow as a team."
Josh Evans pitched the first inning before giving way to
Tyler Garam, who allowed one run over five innings.
Hunter Wolfington was credited with the win.
The Pride finished conference play with an 8-10 mark. Greensboro has tallied 17 conference wins over the past two seasons, which is the most conference wins in program history over a two-year span.
