GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team topped their Wasps of Emory & Henry College in their first meeting of the season Monday, 7-2.
The Wasps took a one-run lead in the top half of the third inning before Greensboro used a two-run bottom half to take a 2-1 lead.
Hunter Curtis hit a single to right field, plating
Blake Carroll from second base, to tie the game before scoring the go ahead run on a
Cameron Peters single to right field.
Greensboro then held their one-run advantage until the fifth inning when Emory & Henry tied the game for a second time.
However, the Pride was able to put the game away with a five-run seventh.
Tyler Price had a RBI double down the left field line before
Tyler Fuller and Peters tallied RBI singles.
Brayden King then plated Fuller with a sacrifice fly, while
Jacob Rodriguez tallied the game's final RBI with a single to right.
Willis Booth allowed two runs over the first 4 2/3 innings before giving way to
Eli Moravick, who earned the win after pitching the final 4 1/3 innings and allowed only two hits.
"It was nice to see Willis (Booth) have a nice outing and Eli (Moravick) follow up with four scoreless innings after him," head coach
Frank Maldonado said. "We got some timely hitting late in the game that made the difference. It was a good team win."
Curtis, Price,
Lincoln Hewett, Fuller and Peters each had two hits in the game.
The Pride will return to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday when they host Piedmont International for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. For more information on Greensboro College baseball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
