Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Bruins

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball completed a two-game sweep of the Bruins of Piedmont International University Wednesday.
 
Game 1
Greensboro College plated five runs in the first inning to take a five-run lead before extending their lead to 9-1 following a four-run second after the Bruins scored one run in the top half.
 
In the four-run first, Chance Bryant plated Lincoln Hewett and Scotty McGuire with a double to left field. Hewett and Hunter Curtis then tallied RBI doubles of their own in the second.
 
Holding on to the eight-run advantage, Greensboro two runs in the fifth inning before tallying the game's final four runs in the sixth.
 
Glass recorded Greensboro's lone RBI hit in the fifth before Blake Bond and Tyler Price recorded RBI singles to cap off the scoring in the sixth.
 
Curtis, Price, Glass and Hewett each had a team-leading two hits in the victory. Piero Amador was credited with the win after pitching the first five innings before giving way to Cameron Whitson to close things out.
 
 
 
Game 2
The Pride plated the first run of the game in the first inning. Blake Carroll lead off with a single, but advanced to third after a Bruins fielding error. Hunter Curtis then followed up with a walk and a stolen base. After a wild pitch, Curtis advanced to third and Carroll scored. Two batters later, Curtis scored on a fielder's choice to extend Greensboro's lead to 2-0.
 
Greensboro went on to score two and three runs in the second and third innings, before both teams were unable to score runs in the fourth inning.
 
With a 7-0 lead, the Pride extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Dalton Tassinari laced the ball into to center field to load the bases right before Derek Jaar singled to bring in two runs. Jaar and Tassinari later scored off of a Cameron Peters two RBI-single to extend the lead, 11-0.
 
Greensboro was able to put up one more run in the sixth inning, before the Bruins scored two unearned runs in the top of the seventh. The seventh inning rally was not enough and Piedmont International fell to the Pride, 12-2.
 
Will Hicks earned the complete-game victory after working 7.0 innings and allowing two runs on three hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.
 
"It was a good day at the plate and on the mound today," Head Coach Frank Maldanado said. "Very proud of this group for continuing to compete and finishing the season strong."
