LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Greensboro College baseball team used an eighth inning rally to battle back to top the Hornets of Lynchburg College Tuesday, 8-4.
Greensboro took a 1-0 lead in the first inning following a Lynchburg error before the Hornets drew even in the second inning.
The score then remained the same until Lynchburg used a one-run sixth and seventh inning to take a 3-1 lead into the eighth.
In the top half of the inning, Greensboro pulled to within one run on a
Scotty McGuire single to left field before
Derek Jaar tied the game with a single of his own.
After tying the game, the Pride was not done scoring as
Brayden King was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to regain a one-run lead.
However, Lynchburg was able to tie the game once again with one run in the bottom half of the inning, but Greensboro used a four-run ninth to secure the victory.
Blake Glass and
Tyler Fuller each hit two RBI doubles in the innings, scoring
Tyler Price,
Blake Carroll,
Tim Osborne and
Blake Glass.
"Matthew (Yates), Eli (Moravick) and Cam (Whitson did a great job on the mound today," head coach
Frank Maldonado said. "They filled up the zone and competed.
"We struggled early offensively but came up with some big hits late in the game that made the difference."
King finished with a team-high two hits, while Glass and Fuller had a team-high two RBI each.
Matthew Yates started the game on the mound, pitching the first 5 2/3 innings, before giving way to
Eli Moravick, who earned the win.
Cameron Whitson finished the game on the mound, allowing just one hit over the final inning.
