GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team dropped their series opener to the Panthers of Ferrum College Friday, 11-6.
Ferrum took a two-run lead into the third inning before
Tyler Price laced a two-out single to shallow right field, plating
Jimmy Short and
Blake Carroll, to tie the game.
Ferrum then used a six-run fifth inning to pull away from the Pride.
Following the big inning by the Panthers, Greensboro was able to get on run in to the home half as
Hunter Curtis hit a double into the right-center field gap.
The Panthers added to their lead with one run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh before Greensboro was able to pull within 11-4 with a run of their own in the bottom half of the seventh.
Greensboro then scored their final two runs in the eighth inning when Short hit a two RBI single to right field, score
Tyler Fuller and
Derek Jaar.
Despite getting runners on in the ninth, Greensboro was unable to get any closer, falling by the five-run margin.
Fuller paced Greensboro at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance, while Short, Price and Carroll had two hits each.
Will Hicks was credited with the loss after giving up eight runs over five innings, while
Willis Booth,
Hunter Wolfington and
Cole Cooper combined to pitch the final four innings.
