GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team fell to the Panthers Ferrum College Saturday in Game 2 of a three-game set, 5-4.
Ferrum took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning before Greensboro was able to tie the game in the bottom when
Brady Dignan plated
Tim Osborne and
Tyler Price with an infield single.
The Panthers then regained a two-run lead in the fifth inning, but the Pride pulled to within 4-3 with one run in the bottom on a
Tyler Price single that scored
Jacob Rodriguez from second base.
The score remained the same until Ferrum tacked on another run in the sixth before Greensboro scored the game's final run in the seventh when
Jimmy Short crossed home on a
Hunter Curtis single up the middle.
"Our pitching staff did a great job and gave us a chance to win the game, but we just could not execute when we need it the most," Head Coach
Frank Maldonado. "Despite not getting the result that we wanted, I am proud of my guys as they continue to compete every inning."
"We will get back after it tomorrow to close out the series."
Rodriguez and Dignan paced Greensboro at the plate, both going 3-for-4, while Curtis, Price and Osborne had two hits.
Piero Amador pitched the 4 1/3 innings and was credited with the loss.
Joseph Hoelle pitched the remainder of the game and gave up one run on two hits.
The Pride and the Panthers will close out the three-game set at 1 p.m. Sunday. For more information on Greensboro College baseball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
