Baseball Suffers Five-Run Setback Against Falcons

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College baseball team fell to the Falcons of Pfeiffer University Tuesday, 13-8.

The Falcons took a 3-0 lead in the first inning before the Pride responded back in the second inning to tie the game. Jimmy Short hit a single to right-center field to score Scotty McGuire and Brady Dignan. Daniel Efird then plated the tying run with a single of his own.

However, Pfeiffer put together a three-run third inning to take a 6-3 lead, but Greensboro tied the game once again in the bottom half after Tim Osborne recorded one RBI and Blake Carroll had 2 RBI on a double to the left-center field gap.

Greensboro was able to gain their first lead of the game in the fourth inning on a Hunter Curtis double before extending their lead to 8-6 in the fifth inning.

Despite holding on to the two-run lead, Greensboro was unable to hold off the falcons over the final four innings, falling by the five-run margin.

"We faced a very solid Pfeiffer team today and we need to do a better job of executing pitches, playing defense and hitting in RBI situations," Head Coach Frank Maldonado said. "It is early in the year and there is still plenty of time to get better in all of those areas."

Short, Efird, Curtis, McGuire, Osborne, Brayden King, Dignan and Carroll each had one hit on the day. Hunter Wolfington took the loss on the mound.

The Pride will return to action Friday when they open USA South Athletic Conference play at Averett University. For more information on Greensboro College baseball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
