FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Greensboro College women's basketball team defeated the Monarchs of Methodist University Sunday, 65-56.
The Monarchs held a 19-9 lead in the early seconds of the second period before Greensboro went on a 14-3 run to gain a 23-22 lead.
Monica Smalls paced the run with four points, while
Katie Lewis and
Kylee Barry each hit a three-pointer.
Courtney Pearsall and
Rasheika Gregory combined for four points.
After the two teams traded the lead for the next three minutes, Greensboro took a 33-28 lead into halftime, closing out the period with a 6-0 run.
Methodist pulled to within two early in the third period before the Pride put together another run to take a 41-32 lead.
Thereafter, Greensboro led by as many as 11, ultimately winning by nine.
"This was a really good win for us today as Methodist is a very tough place to play," Head Coach
Randy Tuggle said. "Once we got going, we were able to win the turnover and rebound battle which helped us come out on top."
Smalls finished with a team-high 17 points and nine rebounds, while Barry (11) and Gregory (10) also hit double figures.
Marla Crawford finished with eight points and a game-high seven assists.
