GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro College women's basketball team had three players score in double figures as they defeated Mary Baldwin University Saturday, 74-25.
The Pride and the Squirrels were tied at seven just seven minutes into the first period before
Kamerin Williams and
Rasheika Gregory each scored six points as Greensboro closed out the period on a 12-2 run to take a 19-9 lead.
Following the run, Greensboro continued to hit on all cylinders as
Kylee Barry drained a long three-pointer on the first possession of the second period to push the Pride advantage to 13.
Barry's three-pointer then sparked a 16-0 Greensboro run to give the Pride a 26-point advantage with six minutes to go in the first half.
Monica Smalls hit a pair of turnaround jumpers in the lane during the spurt, while Gregory,
Marla Crawford, and
Courtney Pearsall each had one two-point bucket.
After taking a 43-14 lead into halftime, the Pride outscored Mary Baldwin 20-1 in the third period before sailing to the 49-point victory. Smalls and Pearsall each had six points in the period, while
Leondra Graves,
Katie Lewis, Williams and Crawford combined for eight points.
"We were able to come out and establish the pace early in the game," Assistant Coach
Reggie Hines said. "Today was a good chance for us to get some more players involved in the game, while allowing them to get some more experience on the college level.
"We have to come out with that same energy again tomorrow as we take on a tough Ferrum team."
Williams finished with a team-high 12 points, while Gregory and Smalls chipped in 10 points each. Barry finished with nine points. Pearsall pulled in a game-high eight rebounds, while Gregory, Smalls, and Williams each had four boards.
