ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Kamerin Williams and
Monica Smalls each recorded a team-high 16 points and 8 rebounds as the Greensboro College women's basketball team defeated the Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan Saturday, 70-62.
After the Bishops took a 15-9 lead into the second period, Greensboro used an 8-0 run midway through the period to establish a 25-20 advantage before going into halftime with a four-point lead.
Kylee Barry,
Courtney Pearsall, Smalls, and Williams each had two points during the run.
Greensboro was then able to establish their largest lead of the game at 53-44 following a
Marla Crawford layup with 9-seconds remaining in the third period.
However, Wesleyan battled back to within two points in the final minute but Crawford went a perfect 6-for-6 over the final 7-seconds to secure the eight point victory.
"This was a good win for us," Head Coach
Randy Tuggle said. "Our girls stayed focused on our game plan despite a slow start and was able to come away with the win against a tough North Carolina Wesleyan team."
Crawford finished the game with 13 points, while
Rasheika Gregory had nine points. Pearsall pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. Barry and Crawford each passed for three assists.
