Women's Basketball Suffers Setback At Ferrum Sunday

FERRUM, Va. – The Greensboro College women's basketball team dropped a USA South Athletic Conference matchup against Ferrum College Sunday, 67-44.

The Panthers (8-6, 3-0 USA South) established an eight point lead early in the first period before the Pride (5-9, 1-3 USA South) pulled to within 9-4 following three straight points. Monica Smalls recorded the first of two free-throws before Rasheika Gregory found the bottom of the net for the first time.

After Ferrum pulled out to a 24-10 lead, Greensboro pulled back to within single digits at 24-16, following a 6-0 run. Domonique McCoy accounted for four points during the run, while Kamerin Williams scored off an assist from Marla Crawford.

However, the Panthers were able to extend their advantage to 34-16 heading into halftime.

Greensboro continued to struggle offensively in the second half and could get no closer than 16 points before falling by the large margin.

"We got off to yet another slow start and couldn't recover," Head Coach Randy Tuggle said. "One thing that I was extremely proud of was that our girls continued to fight for the whole game and never gave up."

Williams finished with a team-high 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Katie Lewis, Leea Parker, and Smalls combined for 16 points.

The Pride women will return to the friendly confines of Hanes Gymnasium at 7 p.m. Wednesday when they take on the Angels of Meredith College. For more information on Greensboro College women's basketball, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
