GREENSBORO, N.C. – Monica Smalls,
Marla Crawford, and
Katie Lewis each tallied a game-high 12 points as the Greensboro College women's basketball team defeated Meredith College Wednesday, 68-40.
Each team held the lead three times over the first five minutes of the first period before Greensboro (6-9, 2-3 USA South) used a 7-0 run to take a 12-7 lead. Lewis started the run with her first three-pointer of the game before
Rasheika Gregory and
Marla Crawford combined for the next four points.
After taking an 18-13 lead into the second period, the Pride pushed their advantage to six points at the half following a basket by
Courtney Pearsall.
Greensboro then continued their momentum in the third period as they outscored the Angels (1-12, 1-3 USA South) 12-9 in the third period to take a 43-34 lead into the final period.
Over the first six minutes of the fourth period, Greensboro used a 17-3 run to establish a 60-37 advantage before going on to win by the 28-point margin. Lewis connected on three three-pointers during the spurt, while Crawford, Pearsall, Smalls, and Barry each chipped in two points.
"Our girls did a good job of executing the game plan tonight," Assistant Coach
Alexis Hite said. "We have a lot of depth on our team, and everyone contributed tonight."
In addition to her team-high 12 points, Smalls recorded her fourth double double of the season as she also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
