FERRUM, V.A. – The Greensboro College women's soccer team picked up an overtime conference victory at Ferrum College Sunday, 2-1.
After playing the first 45-miunutes to a scoreless draw, the Pride (6-2, 2-2 USA South) got on the board first in the in the 50
th minute when
Anna George recorded her first goal of the season off an assist by
Lauren Greeson.
However, the Panthers were able to find the equalizer just five minutes later.
Neither team was able to capitalize on its opportunities for the remainder of the half, sending the game into overtime tied at one.
Just 35-seconds into the extra frame,
Samara Alba converted a penalty-kick opportunity to give Greensboro the one goal victory.
"It is never easy to win on the road but our team battled today for a full 90-minutes," Head Coach
Gus Mota said. "I am very proud of our team as they showed a lot of heart and determination throughout the game.
"Going into the weekend, we set a goal for ourselves to get six points in the standings and we accomplished that. It was a true team effort."
Brittany Morrison, who picked up the win in goal for the Pride, recorded nine saves.
Anna Rae Porcelli and Greeson each fired a team-high three shots.
