WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Kamerin Williams posted her first double double of the season as the Greensboro College women's basketball team overcame early struggles to top the Spirits of Salem College Thursday, 63-60.
Salem (2-7) held an eight-point advantage until Greensboro (4-5) used a 7-0 run to pull within 18-17 with nine minutes to play in the second period.
Jonacia Harper accounted for three points during the Greensboro run, while
Rasheika Gregory and Williams added two points each.
Salem the regained a four-point margin but the Pride closed the half on a 6-0 run to take a 28-26 halftime lead.
The Spirits then regained a double digit lead and was able to stay in front until
Domonique McCoy sparked a 10-0 Pride run, giving Greensboro a 56-53 lead with just over three minutes to play.
However, Salem came back to tie the game with 30-seconds reaming before Greensboro closed out the game late, following a basket by
Katie Lewis.
"We were very fourtunate to come away with a win tonight," Head Coach
Randy Tuggle said. "We did not play very well as a team, but we had a couple of players that stepped up really big for us.
"Domonique and Kamerin came up big for us tonight and helped us pull it out."
Williams finished with a team-high 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Smalls also tallied a double double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. McCoy also added 12 points.
