Pride Men Coast Past Cougars In USA South Action

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Pride men's soccer team picked up a road victory against Averett University Sunday, 4-0.

Obi Collins scored the Pride's (7-5, 4-2 USA South) first goal in the 36th minute.  Collins gathered a through ball from Ryan Mule, beat an Averett (6-9, 5-3 USA South) defender before slotting the ball into the bottom left corner.

The Pride scored again right before halftime when Collins played Andrew Moebius in behind the Cougar defense, and Moebius was able to find the back of the net.

Greensboro kept the intensity going in the second half as Jared Heller extended the Pride margin to 3-0 after a deflected shot dropped into his path, beating the Averett keeper.

Mike Tzavlas then scored the game's final goal in the 82nd minute off an assist from Warren Washington.

The Pride outshot the Cougars, 22-4.  Carlos Barragan recorded a team-high eight shots.

Jaime Payamps got the win in goal thanks to his back four allowing zero shots on target.

"The boys played well today as they capitalized on a lot of chances," Head Coach Tony Falvino said. "I'm very happy the boys bounced back and performed well as a team.  They defended as a team and they attacked as a team."

The Pride are back in action when they travel to Covenant College on Friday.  Kickoff is scheduled to be at 4 p.m.  For more information on Greensboro College soccer please continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com
