FERRUM, Va. –The Greensboro College women's soccer team upset the third seeded Panthers of Ferrum College in the first round of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament Wednesday, 3-0.
Anna Rae Porcelli gave the Pride its first goal of the game in the 12
th minute after collecting a loose ball in front of the Panthers keeper.
Later in the half,
Samara Alba tallied her fifth goal of the season off a Porcelli assist to give Greensboro a two-goal halftime lead.
"We came out strong in the first half," Head Coach
Gus Mota said. "Anna Rae's goal gave us a big confidence boost early."
Neither team was able to get a look on goal in the second half until
Briana Huber struck for the game's final goal in the 83
rd minute.
Greensboro tallied 10 shots in the contest with five being on goal. Porcelli and Alba each had two shots on goal, while Huber added one shot on goal.
Brittany Morrison picked up the win in goal for Greensboro after recording seven saves, while Taylor Dodson took the loss for Ferrum.
"This was a total team win," Mota added. "To come out and play strong on the road for a full 90 minutes is tough. I am just really happy for my team, especially the seniors, as we get to move on to the next round of the tournament.
The Pride women will hit the road again Saturday when they travel to No. 2 East seeded Methodist University for a quarterfinal round contest. The game is set to get underway at 3 p.m. For more information on Greensboro College women's soccer, continue to follow
