FAYETTVILLE, N.C. – The Pride women's soccer team fell in double overtime to the Methodist Monarchs on Saturday, in the USA South tournament quarterfinals, 2-1.
Lauren Greeson scored the game's opening goal in the 24
th minute after she collected pass from
Devin D'Agostin.
Greensboro (10-7-3) then maintained its one-goal lead until the Monarchs (9-5-2) found the equalizer in the 85
th minute, sending the game into overtime.
Despite having a couple of opportunities in the overtime periods, Greensboro was unable to hold off the Monarchs as they scored the game-winning goal with just seconds remaining in the second overtime.
Greeson had a team-high three shots on goal, while
Anna Rae Porcelli and
Samantha Lopez each had one shot on goal. Despite recording eight saves,
Brittany Morrison took the loss in goal, while Clare WItt recorded the win for Methodist.
"I am extremely proud of the team," Head Coach
Gus Mota said. "It wasnt the year we wanted but it was still a successful one.
"So many positives this year to build on moving forward."
